SOFTBALL BOUNCES BACK IN BIG WAY

After going 1-2 at the Cat Classic in Dalton, the Lady Mountaineers got back to their winning ways against Rome. An early lead helped The Lady Mountaineers defeat Rome 17-2 on Monday. Mckinley Fields got things going with a two run blast in the first inning. Kaylee Higgins doubled to left scoring August Miles to give the Mountaineers a 3-0 lead. The girls would get back at it in the top of the second. Alivia Rymer would add 2 RBI’s and Fields would score Rymer on a sac fly extending the lead 6-0. Tisha Sexton’s triple in the third, scoring McKayla Ridley, would give the Mountaineers a 7-0 lead. Jodi Evans would take over the pitching duties for Talli Burgess, who shut down the Lady Wolves through 3 innings. Sexton and Rymer would each add and RBI in the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, Rome would push 2 runs across on errors making the score 9-2. The Lady Neers bats would get hot again in the sixth, scoring 8 runs to take a 17-2 lead. Grace Petty(2), Maddy Gosdin, Higgins, Evans(2), Sexton, and Smith added RBI’s
Burgess earned the win. She pitched three innings, no runs, no hits, five k’s, and no zero. in relief,  Evans pitched three inning, 2 runs, 2 hits, and 3 k’s.

The Lady Neers had 18 hits in the game. Higgins, Rymer, Miles, Evans, Sexton, and Fields each collected multiple hits for North Murray. Rymer and Higgins each managed three hits to lead way.

The Lady Mountaineers travel to Ringgold tomorrow for the start of sub-region play. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
