On Tuesday night, the rain didn’t keep the Lady Mountaineers and Lady Jackets from getting their game in. The game looked to be a pitchers dual! Both teams held each other scoreless until the top of the fourth when Calhoun pushed a run across on a blooper to right-center, giving Calhoun a 1-0 lead. The Lady Mountaineers would answer with 4 runs in their half of the inning. McKinley Fields would start the inning off by getting hit by a pitch. August Miles would follow with a bunt to advance Fields to second. Kaylee Higgins would reach base on an error, leaving the bases loaded for Talli Burgess. Burgess executed a bunt to squeeze Fields across, tying the game at 1-1. With runners on second and third, Savannah Smith would also lay down a bunt to squeeze Miles across to give the Lady Mountaineers a 2-1 lead. Smith would also take second on the play giving the Neers runners on second and third. Tatum Brown would follow with a single to right scoring Higgins. Macakyla Ridley would hit into a fielders choice giving the Lady Mountaineers two outs. Tisha Sexton would follow with a line drive single to left scoring Smith. Alivia Rymer would end the inning with pop up to second. The Lady Neers would take a 4-1 lead into the top of the fifth. The Neers defense would shut the Yellow Jackets scoreless in the top of the fifth. Fields started the fifth with another hit by pitch. Miles would fly out to center. With a 2-1 count on Higgins and the rain starting to get heavier, the umpires would call the game. The Lady Mountaineers would take the game 4-1. Burgess would get the win on the rubber going 5, on 1 hit, and 5 strikeouts. The Lady’s will be back in action on Thursday when Bremen comes to town. First pitch is scheduled for 5:55.
